This Code of Conduct applies to all Coffs Coast Derby members and visitors.
All participants must be insured to skate in training sessions. Visiting skaters must inform the CCD committee of their insurance details prior to attending the session.
All safety gear is to be worn at all times whilst on skates during training (helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards). Mouth guards to be worn at the instruction of the coach/es.
No one is permitted to skate until a first aid officer is present.
Zero tolerance on drugs and alcohol: Attendees MUST NOT use alcohol and/or illicit drugs at training sessions, before or after training whilst at the venue. Attendees MUST NOT be under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs during training/bouts/scrimmages. If an attendee is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and/or another substance they will be instructed to gear off and leave immediately.
Training sessions may be divided by skill level to ensure safety and appropriate challenge for all skaters. Experienced skaters are encouraged to mentor newer members to foster growth, confidence, and community.
If a skater is unwell or injured prior to the commencement of the training session, they must inform the Coach/es. If a skater is deemed unfit to train, they will be encouraged to attend the session off skates to learn and assist with drills as required. If a skater is injured during training, they must seek the advice of the Coach and/or First Aid officer.
Skaters must communicate clearly with coaches regarding their attendance:
If a skater will be late or unable to attend a training session, they must notify the Coach/es prior to the session.
Skaters arriving late must seek guidance from the Coach/es on how to safely warm up and integrate into the session.
If a skater needs to leave training early, they must inform the Coach/es before doing so.
All skaters must follow the instruction of the Coach/es at all times. If a skater is unable to participate in a particular drill, it will be at the discretion of the skater and coach that the skater sit out.
If a skater feels uncomfortable with any drill or activity — for any reason not previously outlined (e.g. mixed-gender drills) — they should speak discreetly with the Coach/es immediately. CCD is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment. Skaters may request a break or opt out of drills without penalty if they feel unsafe or overwhelmed. Skaters experiencing mental health challenges that may impact participation are encouraged to communicate with coaches or committee members for support.
CCD maintains a zero-tolerance stance on bullying, harassment, violence, discrimination, or intimidation. All attendees are expected to treat others with respect regardless of gender, race, ability, or background. Disputes between members should be handled respectfully and privately. And if unable to be resolved between members, they must be escalated to the grievance officer or committee for mediation.
All skaters must behave in a way that reflects the values outlined in the Coffs Coast Derby constitution. This includes, but is not limited to:
Demonstrating respect, inclusivity, and sportsmanship both on and off the track.
Refraining from making derogatory, defamatory, or disrespectful comments about the league, its members, or its operations — whether in person, online, or when speaking with members of other leagues.
Representing CCD in a manner that upholds its reputation and fosters positive relationships within the wider roller derby community.
Addressing concerns or grievances through appropriate internal channels rather than public or informal forums.
Breaches of the code of conduct may result in verbal warnings, written notices, suspension, or expulsion depending on severity and recurrence.
